Cruise ship trends 2020: more passengers and additional routes

Cruise ships trends for 2020 are focused on having more passengers living the fascinating experience of this way of traveling.

According to the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), which brings together the most important shipping companies in the world, 32 million people will take a cruise next year.

Almost half of them will come from North America (14.24 million), followed by travelers from Western Europe (6.73 million); Asia (4.24 million); and Australia-Pacific region (1.46 million).

For that reason, shipping companies are proposing diverse and fascinating routes to provide tourists with a greater variety of options.

There is already an option called “micro-cruising”, which are trips of three to five days whose target audience is tourists who have little time available, but are willing to embark on this adventure.

The Association foresees that in 2020, the interest of travelers will grow in respecting local culture and diversifying excursions, so routes with longer stopovers are already being considered to visit the destinations extensively.

An increase in the number of single travelers is also forecasted, so some companies have already removed the surcharges for traveling without unaccompanied in a double occupancy cabin, as well as the inclusion of studio-type cabins, and other amenities for this type of tourist.

Cruise Ships Trends 2020: Greener Ships

If you are a traveler who is also concerned about the environment, CLIA points out that the sector will invest over USD$20 billion to promote clean technologies and reduce emissions by 40%.

They plan to accomplish that by using more environmentally friendly fuels such as natural gas, and with hybrid exhaust gas cleaning technology, which reduce polluting particles by half.

Overdo it with the buffet

Buy more things that they can bring back

Don’t socialize

You have a lot in common with the people cruising with you, you are all literally on the same boat, so take the opportunity to make some friends and meet some people. Don’t pack to full capacity

Remember to leave room in your bags for possible souvenirs and purchases you make while on the trip. All destinations are great places to buy things you may not be able to find anywhere else in the world, so make sure you have that in mind and that way you won’t have to worry about picking between your new ware and something that you may have to leave behind due to poor planning.

Bring a beltpack, you will use it

Yes, they may look goofy but they are great for carrying your important documents, handheld devices or just some money as you walk around the ship. They are more versatile than your wallet and you don’t need pockets, so give them a chance.

Pack by outfits

If you pack by complete set of outfits, including accessories and underwear, you will be less likely to over pack and thus save a lot of space. You can think about when you may change and consider special occasion and things like date nights on the cruise and then have it all ready. Bonus points if you separate each outfit in a different ziplock bag.

Tag your bags

Save yourself a headache by having your own personal tags on your bags in additions to the ones you get from the airline. Those pieces of paper with a flimsy elastic band will fall off easily and your bags will be unmarked.

Photograph your luggage and copy your IDs

This will make your life a lot easier if you lose any of your items. The picture can help others help you find your bag easily and the copies of your IDs will prove very useful if you misplace any of that important documentation.

When we talk about islands it is inevitable to imagine beaches, white sands, blue waters and beautiful landscapes that urge you to go on holiday and soak in the sun; but when we mention arctic islands we are not referring to those tropical paradises, but instead to places with white and cold landscapes, ideal for skiing and observing the wide variety of animals that are not common to other ecosystems due to their specific adaptation to cold weather.

On this specific article, here at Royal Holiday Cruises, we want to talk about some islands that most people are completely unaware of their existence due to their faraway location, however these places are beautiful and wonderful to rest and get away, where you will find very few inhabitants that ensure the safety and wellbeing of the area.

Ellesmere

Ellesmere is considered one of the coldest and largest islands in Canada and the whole world. It belongs to the group of Queen Elizabeth Islands in the Arctic Ocean and is divided by the Arctic mountain range, which makes it the most mountainous island out of the whole group. The wildlife in this place is very rare to find elsewhere, such as the arctic wolf, the muskox, caribou and polar bears. Ellesmere spans for 196,235 Km² and has a population of around 168 inhabitants mostly living in Grise Fiord, the capital.

The waters surrounding Ellesmere remain frozen for most of the year, but during the summer, the river thaws and most of the waters because negotiable on a ship. Paleo-eskimos were the first inhabitants of this wild land; they were highly skilled hunters that lived of walruses. Later the Vikings came followed by the first Europeans in the year 1616 represented by William Baffin. The island was subject to many discoveries and investigation by scientists that found here many species of animals that were considered unusual at the time, like a large camel long extinct as well as many species of plants and vegetables like the Mammoth Tree. In 2004, a fish names Tiktaalik was discovered. This specimen had gills and scales but it also showed extremities that seemed to have been functional like elbows and wrists. Near Ellesmere, you can find a remote place were the most northern people in the world live. The place is called Alert and it’s just a few hours away from the North Pole, only five people live here and they are in charge of running this meteorological and scientific station. Nearby you can also find the Quttinirpaaq National Park and the Ellesmere Island National Park.

Wrangel Island

Located in Russia and considered a natural sanctuary protected by the federal government and the Russian ministry of natural resources. The island sits between the Chukchi Sea and the East Siberian Sea. The tallest point on the island is Sovétskaya Mountain topping at 1093 meters. Many valleys, lakes, rivers and ravines accompany the mountains in this island. Wrangel island is very famous for being the last place in earth mammoths lived. Today you may find the lairs of many polar bears, arctic foxes and muskox as well as walruses and arctic owls.

Bear Island

The island is located in the western part of the Barents Sea, it was discovered the 10th of June of 1596 by Willem Barentsz and Jacob Van Heemskerk, a couple of Dutch traders that were traveling to China. The island is named Bear Island due to the large amount of polar bears living there. The island is also full of seagulls that use it to lay their eggs and nest their young. The island is very remotely located and only nine people live there, they are all workers of the Herwig Hamna meteorological weather station. This is a land that is completely cold and lonely but it’s also home to someone of the most beautiful landscapes and unmatched vistas in the world, filled with pines and all kinds of trees as far as the eye can see. There are also rivers, creeks and frozen waterfalls that find their way to the foot of the mountains and reflect moss covered rocks on their crystal clear waters. Fishing is the main occupation for those who live around the island and there is plenty of fish to go around. Just 175 km from Bear Island, you can find the Bear Island Natural Reserve, here you can find the tallest peak of the island with a height of 536 m.

These islands are beautiful in their own way, and discovering them is a way to look upon a different type of landscape most people aren’t used to. Boracay is world famous for being the beach capital of the Philippines. This tiny island was voted the best on the planet back in 2012 and today it continues to be on every single list of the tops island destinations for travelers every year. Boracay is located about 200 miles south of Manila and a mile off the northwest tip of Panay Island in Western Visayas region of the Philippines. The origin of the name Boracay is not completely clear. Ariel’s Point

This is a great day-trip destination in Boracay. Ariel’s Point is about 30 minutes away from Boracay on a boat ride and is the perfect destination for adventure seekers and nature lovers alike. One of the main things that make this destination so popular is the practice of cliff diving. People from all over the world travel here every year to experience the adrenaline of jumping of a high cliff into the ocean. Anyone can practice this great sport since they have shorter platforms for those who want to give it a go but not go all the way. In Boracay, you may find tickets for a day trip to Ariel’s Point that include transportation, food, snacks, tour guide and even in some cases unlimited beverages.

White Beach

White Beach is probably the main reason why people visit Boracay. This perfect stretch of white sand with some of the most amazing blue water you will ever see, this is also the commercial center of the island. White beach is divided into 3 main sections where you can find some of the most expensive and upscale resorts on the island, an area where most commerce takes place with shops, restaurants, stores and all kinds of businesses and also a smaller quieter area that has not yet been quite developed where people go looking for a place to relax. As busy as the beach is, people truly take care of it, so you will always find it pristine and clean. Parasailing is a very common activity here, the sights while you are up in the air are amazing and unlike anything you’ll ever experience.

Yapak Beach

Yapak Beach is the perfect example of what a paradisiac beach should look like. The place seems taken out of a postcard because it is simply breathtaking. The locals gather here to collect puka shells to make traditional jewelry and sell to the tourist; hence the place is also known as Puka Beach. The waters here are a little bit rougher than in other areas of Boracay, so this particular beach usually has fewer people visiting. This makes it the perfect destination for those looking to get away from the crowns, however, that also means that there are fewer services for tourists in the side of the island. There are only a few restaurants here but it doesn’t mean you won’t be able to find the basic necessities as well as some cold drinks and even purchase wares from the local vendors that walk up and down the beach.

There are dozens of establishments all over the island for divers who want to experience the waters around Boracay.
