The Galapagos Is One Of The World’s Most Amazing Destinations

by Royal Holiday November 7, 2016
written by Royal Holiday

The Galapagos are a group of islands located about 500 miles away from Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean. The archipelago is very popular for being a place where Charles Darwin concentrated much of its scientific research due to their large number of endemic species and their great biodiversity. The Galapagos Islands have been ranked in the top spots of places to visit in Central and South America as well as the best islands in the world, the best national parks, the best family summer vacation and also some of the most affordable vacation spots in South America. No other place in Earth offers such close encounters with nature and such an amazing opportunity to experience one of the most pristine and untouched ecosystems of the planet; sadly we do not know at this rate, for how long they will retain their magic and conserve all of their ecological value at the rate we are destroying the planet.

You can see The Galapagos during the whole year if you chose to do so. June through August are the busiest months to visit as well as the priciest time to go to the island, from December through May the weather is hotter and the rains are more constant but the ocean is calmer. If you are into SCUBA diving, experts recommend to go from September to November when the water is a lot colder and you can see more marine species out and about.

Without a doubt, the wildlife is the main reason why people chose The Galapagos as their holiday destination and they do it rightly so. As we mentioned before, the diversity and amount of species that you can’t find anywhere else in the world, are very abundant here.

The Galapagos are one of the few places left in the planet where human touch is practically non-existent. The islands do not have an indigenous population and they were actually the first place to be named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Most access to the islands in restricted and requires licensed guides to take you there in order to further protect the place from our destructive influence.

The educational value of visiting the Galapagos is unmatched. Here you can witness first-hand the marvels of evolution unfolding before your eyes and understand why this place presented such a strong evidence to support Charles Darwin’s theories and his work in natural selection. Giant tortoises, sea lions, and birds like finches and boobies are all over the place and their lack of fear for humans can give you the chance of experiencing some of the closest encounters you will ever live with this amazing creatures.

If you love the water, this place is as diverse beyond its coasts as it is inland. More than 400 hundred different species of fish have been documented in this area and more than 10% of them are endemic to the region. The place is perfect for snorkeling as well with the whole family with the guidance of the experts in the subject. Finding penguins, sea lions, and even sharks is not uncommon when you venture to discover underwater life at The Galapagos.

The opportunity to take amazing photographs is another great reason why people love to come here. It feels like you are cheating when you gaze upon the vistas and landscapes the Galapagos have to offer. Even the newest amateurs can be sure that they will capture some of the greatest shots they will ever be able to take in any vacation.

The beaches here are absolutely stunning. You can find some of the bluest waters and the whitest sands you have ever seen, as long as you don’t mind sharing the space with sea lions and birds instead of umbrellas, food stands, and noisy vendors. Each island is like a different world unto itself. You can find all kinds of topography, landscapes, vegetation and animal life that has existed for thousands of years untouched.

Visiting The Galapagos is both beautiful and sad at the same time, because at this rate, this amazing archipelago composed of more than 60 different islands will eventually disappear. Tourism is something that greatly contributes economically to the conservation, protection and preservation of these ecosystems, but at the same time, collective consciousness about the issues that leave the future of this beautiful in such a degree of uncertainty must be raised. Those who visit the Galapagos must leave the islands as heralds and ambassadors of the beauty they have experienced and understand their role in making sure that many more generations can enjoy that same privilege.

The Perfect Beautiful Destination For Relaxation And Fun

by Royal Holiday October 2, 2016
written by Royal Holiday

Boracay is world famous for being the beach capital of the Philippines. This tiny island was voted the best on the planet back in 2012 and today it continues to be on every single list of the tops island destinations for travelers every year. Boracay is located about 200 miles south of Manila and a mile off the northwest tip of Panay Island in Western Visayas region of the Philippines. Even though the place is small, Boracay has become very popular amongst those looking for a place away from civilization where they can relax, enjoy the peace and quiet that its white sandy beaches offer, and partake in the many celebrations held by its vibrant nightlife.

The origin of the name Boracay is not completely clear. Some say it comes form the word “Borac” which means white cotton in allusion to its white sandy beaches while others say the name is a combination of the words “Bora” and “Bocay” which mean bubbles and white respectively. The island is about 3 miles long, shaped like a bone and with the narrowest spot being less than one mile wide, and has a total land area of 4.5 square miles. There are many ways to get to Boracay like airplane connections to nearby locations and ferry rides or boats to the island, as it doesn’t have its own airport. From Malay you can take a small boat that will drop you off in Boracay after a short ride.

Ariel’s Point

This is a great day-trip destination in Boracay. Ariel’s Point is about 30 minutes away from Boracay on a boat ride and is the perfect destination for adventure seekers and nature lovers alike. One of the main things that make this destination so popular is the practice of cliff diving. People from all over the world travel here every year to experience the adrenaline of jumping of a high cliff into the ocean. Anyone can practice this great sport since they have shorter platforms for those who want to give it a go but not go all the way. In Boracay, you may find tickets for a day trip to Ariel’s Point that include transportation, food, snacks, tour guide and even in some cases unlimited beverages.

White Beach

White Beach is probably the main reason why people visit Boracay. This perfect stretch of white sand with some of the most amazing blue water you will ever see, this is also the commercial center of the island. White beach is divided into 3 main sections where you can find some of the most expensive and upscale resorts on the island, an area where most commerce takes place with shops, restaurants, stores and all kinds of businesses and also a smaller quieter area that has not yet been quite developed where people go looking for a place to relax. As busy as the beach is, people truly take care of it, so you will always find it pristine and clean. Parasailing is a very common activity here, the sights while you are up in the air are amazing and unlike anything you’ll ever experience.

Yapak Beach

Yapak Beach is the perfect example of what a paradisiac beach should look like. The place seems taken out of a postcard because it is simply breathtaking. The locals gather here to collect puka shells to make traditional jewelry and sell to the tourist; hence the place is also known as Puka Beach. The waters here are a little bit rougher than in other areas of Boracay, so this particular beach usually has fewer people visiting. This makes it the perfect destination for those looking to get away from the crowns, however, that also means that there are fewer services for tourists in the side of the island. There are only a few restaurants here but it doesn’t mean you won’t be able to find the basic necessities as well as some cold drinks and even purchase wares from the local vendors that walk up and down the beach.

Snorkeling and SCUBA

There are dozens of establishments all over the island for divers who want to experience the waters around Boracay. If you are a beginner or have never tried diving before, this is a great place to get started and give it a try, since the clear waters and the abundant sea life make it perfect to fall in love with this beautiful sport. You can rent equipment in many places around White Beach and get a guide or an instructor if you need once.

Nightlife

Boracay’s nightlife is a non-stop event every day of the week. Here you can find it all, from the most extravagant and flashy affairs of partying and loud music, to relaxing lounges, cafes and smaller venues with live local artists. Bars and clubs are everywhere to be found, and simply walking around is probably the best way to find something that suits your taste in music and atmosphere.

Kauai: Paradise Awaits You And Your Loved Ones

by Royal Holiday September 18, 2016
written by Royal Holiday

The island of Kauai

Kauai is known for being the oldest of the Hawaiian Islands geologically and also the fourth largest with a surface of 1,456.4 km2. The island is located about 170 kilometers northwest from Oʻahu and is famous for its mountainous volcanic ranges and for being one of the places with the most precipitation in the whole world. Due to the fluvial activity, erosion is very high in the area east of Mount Waialeale and multiple canyons and waterfalls can also be seen.

The island of Kauai has many different points of interest and local sites for that visiting who want to experience harmony with the landscapes around them and see all the wonderful natural marvels like green valleys, waterfalls, beaches, beautiful sights, crystal clear waters and more.

Places of interest

Menehune Fishpond (Alekoko)

According to the Hawaiian stories, the Menehunes were a legendary tribe of people who inhabited the deep forests and hidden valleys of old Hawaii. The legend says that they created the Alekoko pond one-night using lava stones and then brought forth much fish to place in there and so they stayed to live in the area, as fishing is said to be one of their favorite activities. The fishpond is one of the most important and highly visited sites. The area is perfect for taking pictures and watching some of the most beautiful landscapes and sunsets the island has to offer.

Kaulu Paoa Heiau

During the summer, this beach is visited by many people who come here to engage in snorkeling and scuba diving in its calm and clear waters that offer the perfect temperature for these underwater activities.

Lifeguards who are always aware of anything irregular that may be going on and ensure the safety and proper care of the location watch the beach constantly. The area is not only rich in tourism but also it is a place sacred considered sacred and patrimony of Hawaii. As it is the case with many of the local cultural locations, it has a legend that tells the story of how the body of the local chief Lohiau Kauai, was placed inside a cave near the Oceanside cliffs. The story says the chief was in love with Pele, the goddess of volcanoes and fire, but died and was unable to be with her. Pele’s daughter transported his spirit in the form of a flower and set it on the cliffs where people can see today the representation of said flower in the colors of the rainbows.

Waimea Canyon State Park

This amazing 16-kilometer long located on the western side of the island is famously known as the Great Canyon of the pacific. The place is a beautiful wonder of geology and a great site to visit while staying at Kauai. There are a few great lookout spots where you can snap the perfect picture or simply enjoy the view of the many colors that put on a show at this gorgeous meeting of the many hues of nature. The climb is not difficult to undertake and is well worth the small effort. Those who have visited list the Waimea Canyon as one of the most beautiful sights they have seen in their entire life, they simply call it “undescribable”, so I guess that means you must hit the road and go see it for yourself.

National Tropical Botanical Garden

Plants are some of Hawaii’s most valuable inhabitants. The noble mission of the National Tropical Botanical Garden in Kauai is that of preserving the tropical plant diversity through programs of research, protection, propagation and education of the public. Kauai itself is known as the “Garden Island” and this amazing botanical garden can quickly show you why. The number of species of plants is unbelievable and the facilities are excellent to welcome all visitors.

In the island of Kauai alone you can find three of the nation’s five National Tropical Botanical Gardens on Kauai: Limahuli Gardens in Haena and McBryde Garden and the Allerton Garden on the South Shore. McBryde Garden, for example, is famous all around the world for holding the largest collection of native Hawaiian flowers in the planet.

The Limahuli Garden and Preserve is located on the north shore of the Island. Behind the garden, you can see the magnificent Makana Mountain and to the front, the beautiful blue waters of the Pacific Ocean.

In the back of the Garden is the Limahuli Preserve where ecologists and restoration biologists work constantly to preserve species native to this habitat. The American Horticultural Society chose the Limahuli Garden as the best natural botanical garden in the United States and sees its practices on water, soil, and rare plant conservation as an example to follow.

Beautiful Aruba Truly Is, One Happy Island

by Royal Holiday August 19, 2016
written by Royal Holiday

Aruba is located right at the heart of the southern Caribbean approximately 25 kilometers away from Venezuela. The tiny island is about 32 kilometers long by 10 kilometers wide with an approximate area of about 180 km/sq. On the eastern side of this small country you can find Oranjestad, the capital of Aruba and also its most important and populous city. Oranjestad is usually known as “The Beach” because of its beautifully colored streets.  The city is a perfect mix between the new and the old, which makes it more beautiful and interesting to all who visit. Along the streets and avenues you can find stores displaying the latest fashions of the best designers and alongside you can find many old buildings that have been restored to their former colonial glory. The homes seem from faraway create a beautiful mosaic of color and contrast.

The main avenue is adorned with a completely restored streetcar that moves passengers along the way and it’s also connected to the main harbor where cruise ships dock and the downtown area. The trolley makes a total of 6 stops in front of museums, monuments and the main shopping areas. Oranjestad has an excellent and busy nightlife with many bars, casinos, restaurants and nightclubs.

Wilhelmina Park is one of the most popular spots for tourists to visit. The name was giving in honor to the Dutch Queen Wilhelmina who was fundamental in the history and development of Oranjestad. As far as cultural establishments, you could also visit the Archeological Museum, which holds a large and interesting collection of pottery and native utensils that were found once in the island.

Celebrations

Bon bini Festival

Every Tuesday at 6:30 PM on the dot, rain or shine, the doors to the Fort Zoutman Historical Museum open to welcome all the visitor coming from everyone in the world to enjoy Aruba’s enthusiastic vibe. The show goes from 7 PM until 8:30 PM and it combines artistic performances, foods, artisan’s markets and music. Many local musicians gather here and sing the night away at the company of dancers playing steel drums. Bon bini means “Welcome” in Papiamento, the local language spoken by the creoles and the afro-descendant population of the Antilles, Curacao, Bonaire and Oruba. Papiamento is a mix of Portuguese, Dutch, Spanish and some African dialects.

Moomba Beach Bar and Restaurant

This place is one of the most famous establishments in Aruba and is located in Palm-Eagle Beach. The place is decorated like a seaside shack filled with happiness and relaxation. There are tables located under small hay kiosks right on the sand. At night, the place is illuminated by torchlight and visitors start to arrive in order to enjoy the wonderful local Caribbean food along with some cocktails like daiquiris, tequila sunrise or the infamous Aruba-riba, a strong concoction mixing plenty of liquors and considered the island’s staple drink. To top it off, the local musicians really liven the party up with their festive beats and the company of the moon and stars reflecting upon the calm sea.

Paarden Baai Beach

This beach is of great historic importance to Oranjestad and is famous for being very beautiful and maintained always very clean. The beautiful blue horse sculptures are there to commemorate the times of the Spanish conquest of Aruba and represent the moment when horses jumped off their boats and swam towards the beach, setting foot in the island of Paarden Baai for the first time ever. Tourists do not frequent this beach as much, and sometimes you can find it completely empty due to the high currents being quite dangerous and access being somewhat restricted in here, however even if you don’t go swimming, the place is a beautiful spot to watch the sunset and just sit for a while. Nearby there are many restaurants and bars as it is located parallel to one of the busiest oceanfront drives in Oranjestad.

Balashi Beer Brewery

Since 1999, Balashi National Brewery has commercialized and produced their own beer. The brew is a Dutch type ale, refreshing and golden, made using Aruba’s potable water. This is very important since this water is known everywhere in the world for being clean and of excellent quality. The name Balashi actually means “water” in Papiamento and this is something of great pride to residents of the island who stand behind their product’s great quality. Tourists are able to visit the plant and learn about the brewing process as well as trying the beer at their outdoor bar. Everything has a cost of only $6 USD. The Balashi Beer Brewery is place you absolutely must visit; you will not regret tasting some of the best beer in the world.

3 Of The Most Beautiful Islands To Visit In Colombia

by Royal Holiday August 14, 2016
written by Royal Holiday

Colombia is a country known for its beautiful landscape and great diversity, which definitely makes it one of the most popular South American destinations for travelers all year around. Everyone wants to learn about new cultures and traditions and Colombia is famous for being home to some of the nicest and friendliest people in the world, thus the country has become the perfect getaway to find a perfect vacation. Here in Royal Holiday we always bring you the most beautiful islands to discover and this time is no exception. When we talk about islands in Colombia, we mean business. These are some of the most perfect spots to rest and enjoy the sweet weather, the music, the parties, the local food and drinks and the amazing sandy beaches with the clearest possible water.

Colombia is quite privileged by having coasts in both the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific. This means any beaches and quite a few islands as well. On the Atlantic heading Northwest for about 740 km away from Cartagena, you will find San Andrés Islands and Islas del Rosario. If you opt for the Pacific, you can find Gorgona Island, Isla Fuerte and Barú amongst others. Islands on the Atlantic are usually the most visited by travelers, but both regions offer great opportunities to be amazed and have the vacation of a lifetime.

San Andrés and Providencia

San Andres Islands gather all splendor of life. Their forests, keys, coral reef ecosystem and wild birds are just some of the things that make up this magical place. It is worth mentioning that this place is quite popular for SCUBA diving, probably one of the best places in Colombia to see some of the most diverse marine life. San Andrés has some of the clearest and cleanest waters present in many shades of blue, something that has given its ocean the nickname “El mar de los siete colores” (The Sea of the Seven Colors). San Andrés traditional dish is made up of fresh whole fish, coconut rice, fried plantains, pork and yucca; a hearty feast considered exquisite by many.

Visiting the island requires to make time in order to explore all of its corners and witness the remnants of its rich history displayed in ancient abandoned boats, natural aquariums and more.

Cabeza de Morgan: This giant rock has the appearance of a human head. These are the ruins of what many believe it was a hiding spot for pirate treasures, more specifically Morgan, the infamous pirate. You may reach the place on foot or by boat.

Museum House of the Island: This small museum shows how the different traditions of the island’s inhabitants have changed through the years. When you enter the place, local dancers will greet you and welcome and entertain the public with their attire and upbeat movements. Inside the museum you will find several collections about the local culture, heritage and important personalities who have lived in the island and some mementos left behind by them. The museum not only offers an insider’s look into the local culture, but also the opportunity to try some of the local cuisine. The hours of operation are from Monday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sundays from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

The Aquarium: This place is not your usual aquarium. Coral reef and some of the most beautiful fish of every color you can imagine surround this beautiful key. The aquarium has no enclosures and the fish come and go as they place. The place is located about 40 minutes from the streets of San Andrés and can only be reached by boat. Out of all the attractions in San Andrés, this is probably one of the most popular ones, as people love swimming among the fish and observe the beautiful underwater world filled with life.

Isla Gorgona

Gorgona has one of the most unique and unmatched ecosystems in the whole world. The island holds great wonders in natural history. One of the main things that bring people to see Gorgona, is the amazing views from the beach and the breathtaking jungle that goes uninterrupted from the highest peaks all the way to the beach and meets the ocean. In Gorgona you can find animal species that can only be seen in the most humid of tropical regions as well as unique coral reef formation, seabirds, dolphins and humpback whales. The main spots for visitors on the island are Playa Blanca, Playa Pizarro, La Azufrada, playa Yundigua and The Old Pier.

Barú

Image courtesy of Jessie Rivera at Flickr.com

This is one of the main spots near Cartagena. The place has beautiful white sand, clear waters and mangroves filled with coral reef. Barú is separated from the continent by the Canal del Dique, a 118 km canal connecting Cartagena Bay (at the town of Pasacaballos) to the Magdalena River in the Bolívar Department in northern Colombia. More than forty thousand slaves built the canal during the times of the Spanish rule. The island has some beautiful beaches and amongst them you can find Punta Iguana, Puerto Naito, Playa Blanca, la Playita de Cholón, Playita de los Muertos y Playa Bobo. Local food and drinks are abundant and diverse in the many stands that you can find all around the beach.

Discover Maui: One Of The Most Amazing Islands On The Pacific

by Royal Holiday July 11, 2016
written by Royal Holiday

This island is the second largest in the Hawaiian archipelago. Located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Maui has a population of 117,644 inhabitants. It is known for its beautiful and diverse beaches and a crater that surfaces from the ocean and is home to a large variety of marine life. Maui has all the features that make it an amazing destination, its beautiful landscapes can be observed while traveling one of the most iconic roads in the world. The turns, tunnels and waterfalls that embellish the Hana Highway and surround the island, are something to behold.

Lahaina is the capital of Maui, formerly the capital of the entire archipelago and until 1845 it was the most famous whaling port in the Pacific. Now, the port can be visited and the historic district is filled with renovated buildings, museums and more.

The island of Maui is also a perfect place to practice aquatic sports like surfing, windsurfing, scuba diving and snorkeling. On top of that, golf is a big deal as well and the many cultural outings and terrific restaurants make Maui the perfect place to relax and vacation.

Multi-colored beaches.

Maui’s beaches are quite diverse when it comes to marine vegetation, sea life and colorful sands in white, green and black. Waianapanapa State Park is home to one of the black sand beaches while Kapalua beach has golden sand and Kaihalulu displays sands of a reddish variety. This phenomenon occurs due to volcanic eruptions that mix small lava particles with sand and because of the rapid cooling of the lava by the ocean water, while green sand occurs because of volcanic crystals and minerals that are separated by erosion. The colorful beaches are a marvel seldom seen anywhere else in the world. The strategic location of the volcanic activity of Hawaii is responsible for these wonderful sights.

Places to visit in Maui

Haleakala

This is one of Hawaii’s most beautiful natural parks. It extends all the way from the south coast to the east and it sits at 3,055 meters above sea level. The park is a huge volcano covered in lush vegetation that provides visitors with the most amazing sights. The tip of Haleakala Crater is the tallest spot in all of Maui, sitting at 10,023 feet above sea level. Visiting the top is one of the most amazing experiences you can live in Maui, getting the chance to witness all the botanical diversity and the post-card quality landscapes of all colors and sunsets to die for. Excursions and walking trails in Haleakala are activities mainly geared towards tourist. You can find all information about routes, prices and tours, available in one of the three visitor centers located at the entrance to the park. The national park has an area of over 30,000 acres full of diverse sights like tall green forests, waterfalls and desert among others.

Kaanapali Beach

Is this beach, you may engage in all kinds of aquatic sports like snorkeling, submarine rides, scuba and others. The main appeal of this beach is the chance to actually see humpback whales passing by. This place is quite important due to being so large and different from the rest of Maui’s beaches. The beautiful white sand and the crystal clear water make this beach one of the most beautiful places to see in all of Hawaii.

Ocean Vodka Organic Farm and Distillery

A modern and innovative idea was born at this farm when a family had the idea of combining organic sugar cane with mineral-rich seawater in order to create vodka. The place is located on the western hills close to the Haleakala volcano. The place is perfect for lovers of fine spirits and those interested in tasting this exotic type of vodka. Here you will find a dedicated guide that will give you all the information about the distillery and how their extraction processes have evolved over the years: and of course, a chance to try their famous drink.

Lahaina City.

Lahania is the most important city in the island and used to be one of the most important harbors in the whole archipelago back when it was Hawaii’s capital. The town has a population of 10,000 inhabitants and thanks to the tourism and agriculture; Lahaina has thrived and became a popular destination for travelers.

One of the main attractions people can find here, is a historic trail that goes through the whole city. The path is full of information posted on helpful signs that talk about the history of Lahaina from its beginning in the kingdom of Hawaii and before the land was even known for its harbor.

When you think of an island this is what you think of, and maybe a piña colada, right?  However, for those adventurers who want to see beyond the Caribbean there are many islands around the world worth visiting.  In Europe there are amazing places, many of them have wonders yet to be explored.

If you want more than playing sports, making sand castles or spending a conventional honeymoon, this list is for you, so you can have the time of your life.

To find out more about how to prepare for next your trip visit https://royalholidaycruises.com/cruise-destinations/

Solta (Croatia)

The archipelago of Central Dalmatia is home to numerous islands; among them is Solta, close to the Islands of Brac, Korcula and Hvar.  This tranquil island is an ideal destination for all those looking for an idyllic place, full of vineyards and olive trees. During summertime tourism increases significantly since this destination is chosen by many to enjoy vacation time. One of its attractions, of course, is its beach and its turquoise and crystal clear waters. Concerning lodging options there is a luxurious hotel called “Martinis Marchi” established in a beautiful old castle, but there are private inns as well that are very reasonable.

Its climate is mediterranean, with mild temperatures during the summer and winter.   Most of its inhabitants work fishing. Also very good quality lime is produced here.  The environment is amazing and many businesses serve in the area, from boat rentals to numerous beach bars for the visitors to enjoy all the fun there is to be offered.

Svalbard Archipelago (Norway)

The archipelago of Svalbard is located over a 1,000 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle, halfway between Norway and the North Pole, and is a network of fjords and mountainous islands covered with numerous glaciers where the amazing icebergs of the area emerge. Despite its proximity to the North Pole, the climate is relatively benign because of the warm gulf current that bathes its coasts. This creates the strange paradox that gathers both, a polar spectacular landscape, and a temperature that is relatively mild for the arctic location. This contrast offers the perfect conditions for the presence of wildlife such as wild reindeers, seals, polar bears, etc.

This place has amazed travellers for years.  Unique wildlife, arctic nature, and old mining towns are found in these islands, which have especial austere and mysterious beauty.

Apart from being the home to thousands of polar bears, the islands are also home to nearly 3000 inhabitants, many of which live in Longyearbyen, the administrative center and one of the largest settlements of the archipelago. This small and colorful community has gone from being a typical village to a modern population with different types of businesses and industries, and with a surprisingly wide range of activities and cultural opportunities, such as concerts, shows, festivals and exhibitions. In Longyearbyen you will also find several bars and first class restaurants, more than you would expect in such a small community.

Sark (Channel Islands, UK)

The Island of Sark is located in the Channel Islands, 80 miles away from south of England. It is the smallest of the four main islands and is part of Guernsey. It has 600 inhabitants and the use of motorized vehicles is prohibited in the islands, so bikes, horse carriages and tractors are the allowed means of transportation, adding an interesting component to this unique location. A visit to Sark is a step back in time. Most people come here for peace and tranquility and to appreciate the landscape and the abundance of wild flowers and sea birds. The landscape of the island of Sark includes meadows full of wildflowers, a dramatic rugged coastline. Therefore, Sark is an ideal place for hiking. The views from the cliffs are spectacular. This is truly a small piece of paradise.  It offers a truly unique experience for visitors who come here looking for fresh air and tranquility and want to avoid city lights and the rush of the city life.

There are good restaurants, fish and local seafood, and you can travel back in time enjoying a lobster Thermidor as if you were in the 80s in The Sablonnerie or in Aval du Creux.  The only way to reach the island (unless you have a helicopter or own boat) is from a small boat from Guernsey or Jersey. You will arrive at the port and a tractor will take your bags up to your hotel.

The top 15 islands of the Caribbean

by Royal Holiday May 12, 2016
written by Royal Holiday

White sands, a turquoise sea, colorful palm trees and delicious food. The Caribbean has tons of hidden islands and each one is a treasure in itself. But there may be places that are better or more worthwhile than others. Here is a list of the best islands in this amazing area of the world.

Despite having somewhat strange names -what were those pirates thinking?- these are extremely beautiful places, with excellent activities and attractions, the most beautiful beaches, and improved accessibility.

  1. Haiti

In its capital, Port-au-Prince, you’ll find the ideal place to get away from the world for a while and let yourself go. This island has more than 20 historical and tourist attractions, including the Musée du Panthéon National Haitien and a flea market.

  1. Guadeloupe

A haven of the weather. It features over 50 natural attractions such as its botanical gardens Deshaies or coral reefs at Pointe des Châteaux. It is definitely the ideal place for adventurers of flora and fauna. Its name used to be Karukera, which means “island of beautiful waters”. No wonder they named it that way!

  1. Dominica

Not to be confused with the Dominican Republic, this island is nicknamed the “Nature Isle of the Caribbean” for its incredible volcanoes, sparkling waterfalls, dense forests and over 300 miles of trails. Its capital, Roseau, has dozens of attractions to visit. A must-visit!

  1. Turks and Caicos Islands

An ideal destination for those who enjoy diving and snorkeling, this place has over 60 attractions, and amazing beaches to lie in the sun. The first of its names is due to a cactus whose shape resembles the Turkish fez, and the second comes from caicos, great reefs that become islands. It’s a paradise for underwater explorers.

  1. Grenada

This beautiful island country has many attractions for tourists, and a mixture of American and European culture. Nicknamed the “island of spice”, due to the production of mace and nutmeg, this is an excellent destination for those seeking adventure or quiet beaches. And if you’re a daring diver, the Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park is waiting for you with a series of impressive sculptures under the sea.

  1. Anguilla

You may think of an animal when you read that name, but we’re talking about a beautiful island with one of the highest percentages of earthly beach. Its cuisine is a mix of Africa, Spain, France and England, and it will surely delight you. If you’re into sports, their national sport is boat racing. Sounds exciting!

  1. Antigua and Barbuda

This island has some of the best trails for hikers, since it has a low beach density, making its shorelines a challenge to roam around. Of its many attractions, we recommend the beach Valley Church beach and the Stingray City, a natural pool where you can swim with friendly stingrays.

  1. Saint Lucia

Formerly called Iouanalao by the Arawaks, which means “Island of the iguanas”, this island has a lot of virgin jungles and white beaches. And, for the best view, do not miss the top of the Pitons mountains, perhaps the island’s most famous landmark.

  1. Trinidad and Tobago

It is home to the oldest protected jungle throughout the hemisphere. It has a low density of beach land, but both islands manage to gather over a hundred attractions, including reserves of tropical animals and horseback rides along the beach.

  1. Aruba

A place with some of the most beautiful beaches in the region. Arashi Beach, Eagle Beach and Baby Beach will win you over, a grain of sand at a time. Also, if you are into sports, the typical winds of this place will allow you to become a master of kitesurfing.

  1. Martinique

This small French island combines its cultural background with the current population, in addition to having more than 80 attractions to choose from. What makes it even more special is the fact that this island has black sand beaches… in the Caribbean! Beautiful and unique.

  1. Montserrat

Volcanoes to climb, ruins to explore, beaches for swimming, getting a tan, and having a piña colada under the Caribbean sun. This is one of the most beautiful islands and inexpensive islands on this list.

  1. Barbados

The birthplace of singer Rihanna, this amazing island will welcome you with open arms, a gentle breeze and a cocktail with Caribbean rum. Our recommendation is to go to Carlisle Bay, the tropical gardens and a shipwreck accessible through diving.

  1. US Virgin Islands

This archipelago’s main islands are Saint Croix, Saint John, St. Thomas and Water Island. Despite not having many beaches, it is home to two renowned ones: Magens Bay and Trunk Bay.

  1. Saint Kitts and Nevis

These sister islands are a hidden gem within the Caribbean, being the smallest ones in the Americas, both in size and population. Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park and the Clay Villa Plantation House & Gardens are both beautiful and historical. The islands have more than 70 other major attractions, and a large area of beach. Why not go for a swim?
